The AVA Petition meeting has decided to create a forum to discuss our status.  We're new to hosting forums so some patience will be needed. I'll post the current copy of our petition and we look forward to your feedback.

    Thanks Tom

Tonight we agreed to change the western boundary of the AVA to push it further to the west. I'm attaching a JPEG with current Lewis & Cowlitz county boundaries. Also attaching a JPEG with Clark & Skamania county boundaries.

Attached is  the Spreadsheet with the Soils data I downloaded from the Web Soil Survey site pasted below. I downloaded detail Soil data for various areas in our AVA into Sheet1.  Then I aggregated that into each specific location tabs in the sheet.

Thx Tom. Will look at this. To you, Roger, and  JC, Do we have project milestones (schedule) set? What is timing for next steps and when will we file?

Attached are the Soils PDFs for each county in the AVA.  I took the soil associations in each that were predominate in the Aggregated Soils spreadsheet I downloaded. Then I edited out the redundancies in the soil assocations.

No Milestones of which I'm aware.   The current status is accurately described in the Jan 4, 2021 meeting minutes pasted below

This is still on hold. We are waiting for input from Teresa Hannah. She is analyzing and researching the soils, etc. and will produce an edited version of Soils and Vineyards of Clark County. We will use her information in our AVA petition. This project will take a couple of months and requires quite a bit of research.

I am attaching two maps of our AVA region from Teresa.  They both include Growing Degree Days based on 10°C, (50°F).  The second map includes the 1200 ft elevation contour.  Here is her explanation of the maps:

I calculated GDD for each point for each year (1988-2018) and then averaged.  Points are ~1082 ft apart and make a grid that covers all  six of the Digital Elevation Model tiles that I needed to cover SWWA.  Downloading climate PRISM data at individual points meant I could include data through the last year the PRISM had stable data, which was 2018.  Jones used 30 year normals which is a dataset that goes until 2010 or 2011.  Since the last few years have been the hottest on record, I wanted to make sure I used the most up to date data I could.  What I can't do, at the moment, is show data averaged from any other decades.  For example, to change it from 1988-2018 to say 2008-2018 I would have to run all 350,000+ files through my macro again.  The macro can handle about 3000 files a day which means a lot of time.

The attached file is slightly altered, and includes the 1200' contour lines.  I added all 1200' lines including the "islands", so sorry about how busy it appears.

Nice GDD maps. I updated the AVA petition to include the sources I used for the Geology and Physical Features as a Distinguishing Feature for the Proposed AVA Soils as a Distinguishing Feature for the Proposed AVA sections of the petition.

Here is a look back at 2019 GDD across the region.  I'm working to adjust the 1200'  boundary line on the west to follow the > 1800 GDD (light yellow) band.  In a good year that should be the limit of viticulture.  QGIS has a bug that makes editing the boundary a real pain.  Once I figure out another way to generate it, we should be good to finalize the petition.
