As of April 1st I have sold my store to one of my employees, Quintin Murchison. Bader Beer & Wine Supply will continue to operate as we did in the past, and continue to be a tier 3 member supporting the local wine industry. I am now fully retired, however still a wine drinker!
For those of you wineries interested in canning wine, I have a plug for the business I just sold, Bader Beer & Wine Supply. They rent a semi-automatic canning machine for $25 a day, and also sell cans in a variety of sizes. I personally canned 16 gallons of wine last year, and 12 gallons the year before. I experienced many benefits, including lower overall weight, easier storability, easier to open, and greater mobility of the product. It is just as easy as bottling wine, and if you are looking to give it a try contact the store and ask for Quintin or Andrew. With 2 people you could manually can about 5 to 6 cans per minute, about 300 cans per hour. There are an assortment of sizes of cans available for sale at Bader Beer & Wine Supply. You can purchase this "Cannular Pro" for $790.
If you purge the can of oxygen prior to filling with wine, I think you could can a wine and expect it to last as long as wine in a bottle, and even longer. A sealed can is going to eliminate oxygen absorption completely. However it makes sense that you start with your wines that you expect consumers to drink within a year of canning.

There are a number of Portland area mobile canning companies that can come to your winery and fill and seal much larger amounts of wine for you.
